New Exhibition at The Water of Leith Cafe Bistro

I was really pleased to be asked back to exhibit here (and not just because of the amazing food and the fact it is voted the #1 restaurant in Edinburgh on TripAdvisor!) The bistro is very child-friendly with lots of families coming to visit so I hoped my work would go down well there again, this time exhibiting more character-based child-friendly pieces.

My work will be on show until 8th January 2013.

Christmas 2012

I've been busy preparing for the Out of the Blue Christmas Arts Market (which is tomorrow), with new Christmas card designs, gifts tags and lots of other handmade items.

Here is my range of Christmas cards for this year...

Here are some pictures of my stall at yesterday's Arts Market. I had a great day and got to chat to some lovely people! I hope to have another stall here soon!

IF: Burst

A quick, last minute Illustration Friday!

This week's word "burst" made me think of the book 'Fetch' I made as a project while studying at eca, which you can see here: http://kathleen-m-illustration.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/fetch-screenprinted-version.html

I've been thinking for a while that I would like to work on this idea again some day but in a style more suited to picture books. This is a fairly quick reworking of the spread where the dog thinks he sees his ball but pounces on a balloon instead.

The French Fancies

I'm now selling some of my prints, cards and merchandise at a little patisserie in Edinburgh, called The French Fancies (owned by a lovely French couple). They make the most amazing macaroons which I had to test for myself! http://www.thefrenchfancies.com/index.php?page=Home

Exhibition at The Water of Leith Cafe Bistro

I am currently exhibiting at The Water of Leith Cafe Bistro in Edinburgh. http://www.thewaterofleithcafebistro.co.uk/index.html
My work is on show til 9th October. It's a great space and as a bonus the menu is fantastic and the owners Ana and Mickael are lovely! Here's a peek at what's on show but I would definitely recommend going to visit and maybe having a cake or two :)

Colouring digitally

Today I've made my first attempt at digital rendering using my very clever new Wacom tablet!

Rosie and Russell character development

Here are some more of the sketches I've been doing of Rosie and Russell this week...

IF: Teacher

This week I've been drawing these characters, called Rosie and Russell. I usually draw animal characters but I designed Rosie and Russell in my final year at ECA to show that I can draw child characters too. I wanted to use them for this week's Illustration Friday but the word "teacher" made it a bit tricky since they are too young for school! So the link might be a bit precarious but here is Rosie teaching Russell how to share!

Illustrate It

I have entered a competition to illustrate a new children's picture book, called 'The Incredible Chapore'. To enter I had to read the story (aimed at 3-7 year olds) and design a front cover for it. Here is what I came up with...

The first round is decided by the public through online votes and a winner is then chosen by the judges from the three most popular entries.

You can read the story here: http://www.illustrateit.co.uk/story.html

...and VOTE for me here! (Please!): http://www.illustrateit.co.uk/gallery.asp
I'm 4th row, 3rd from the left :) Voting closes on August 26th!

Kitten drawings

I've been wanting to try out Promarkers for a while and recently got a few to see how I get on with them. These drawings of kittens were my first attempt and I think I'll be using them a lot more!

Katie's seasons/ Illustration Friday: Freeze

 Katie in Winter

This illustration I made a few months ago popped into my head when I saw this week's IF word "freeze." (The colours have turned out awful on the IF website for some reason!) I then realised I hadn't posted any of the series it belongs to (blame the stress of Degree Show preparation), so here they are..!

My Degree Show!

The ECA Degree Show 2012 is over so I thought I'd post some photos of my space for those of you who missed it. The show went really well- lots of people liked my work and I got some lovely feedback, which was nice!
